Former Endemol Shine Studios Senior Development Executive to Helm Day-to-Day Operations at Joint Venture between ITV Studios America and Circle of Confusion

Los Angeles, CA June 7, 2017 – Russ Buchholz, the Senior Vice President in charge of development at Endemol Shine Studios, has been tapped for the newly created role of Executive Vice President, Head of Creative Affairs, Circle of Confusion Television Studios.

In his role, which is effective immediately, Buchholz will run the Los Angeles-based day-to-day operations of the company that will source, develop and produce premium scripted programming, with support from ITV Studios America. Circle of Confusion Television Studios is expected to draw from its vast library of intellectual property, as well as on its strong relationships with creative talent both inside and outside their walls.

Circle of Confusion partners David Alpert, David Engel, Frank Frattaroli, Lawrence Mattis and Brad Mendelsohn, and ITV Studios America President Philippe Maigret made the announcement today and issued a joint statement saying: “Russ has tremendous experience and shares our excitement for building a preeminent scripted television label. He will be an incredible asset as the joint venture expands its slate of premium groundbreaking shows.”

Before running Circle of Confusion Television Studios, Buchholz served as Senior Vice President, Creative Affairs for Endemol Shine Studios (“Kingdom” for AT&T AUDIENCE, “I’m Dying Up Here” for Showtime). During his tenure, Buchholz helped build the start-up scripted studio into a leading independent player, selling over 50+ projects over 5 years as the primary executive responsible for driving the development pipeline of series for cable, streaming, and broadcast networks in the U.S. market. For the studio, he was instrumental in setting up projects with A&E, ABC, Amazon, AMC, AT&T Audience Network, Bravo, Cinemax, Fox, Freeform, HBO, MTV, NBC, Showtime, Spike, Sundance Channel, TNT, USA and WGN. He also led the group’s effort to secure intellectual property, aggressively sourcing third-party formats, books, plays, articles, life rights, graphic novels, independent films, video games, etc. to be adapted into television series.
